Soap making is super fun. It is all about math, science and art. Failing each batch will be frustrating as you put so much time and effort in making it. Therefore, before you start making each batch, it is always good to take out a notebook, draft and plan.

The accuracy of the amount of oil and lye is very essential. Try to search lye calculator from Google, make sure to have to correct recipe before you start. Then you should start thinking what patterns you want to create. Prep your colourants before you start mixing the oil. Sometimes you have really limited time to think as the trace of the soap will not wait.

For beginners, it is very difficult to control the trace of the batter. Light trace and medium trace are the best tracing level to create different patterns. But light trace is very hard to handle for beginners. When I first started making soap, I was too impatient and always started pouring without any trace. If there is no trace, that is NOT a soap batch. If you are new in making soap, always try to be patient to mix until it starts tracing. Also, you have to wait at least 24 hours before you unmold the batch. So, be patient is super important.
